On September 10, the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association hosted the first annual Opening Hearts, Opening Doors Grant Luncheon to benefit the Housing Opportunity Foundation which is a charitable branch of the association. In attendance were ten local nonprofit honorees and nine Habitat for Humanity locations that would be accepting charitable donations from the foundation. One of these foundations included The Salvation Army Center for Hope which received a 2,000 dollar donation from the Housing Opportunity Foundation. The nomination, which was brought to the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association by Nancy Braun, will be used “to provide assistance for a shelter diversion pilot program, which would reroute families from potentially being homeless back into housing.” This pilot program will assist the more than 6,000 men women and children that would normally be placed into homeless shelters find housing around the Charlotte area.
