North Carolina was recently ranked as fifth in the country for its clean-energy and clean-transportation job creation during this year’s third quarter.
According to the national nonpartisan environmental policy group Environmental Entrepreneurs, or E2, 876 new jobs were made while across the country, about 18,000 clean-energy and clean-transportation jobs were created in more than 20 states. This has been a huge increase compared to the second quarter with 12,000 new jobs and 15,000 from last year’s third quarter.
“It’s really striking how consistently high North Carolina ranks in our jobs reports,” press secretary for E2 Jeff Benzak said. “It’s irrefutable evidence that the state’s strong renewable portfolio standard works and creates good jobs for North Carolinians in every corner of the state. For North Carolina, more clean energy means more jobs.”
Among the biggest announcement related to Charlotte was the announcement of Duke Energy Corporation, a Charlotte-based firm, of its intention to invest $500 million in solar farms, which will certainly create hundreds of employment opportunities to 3 counties: Bladen, Duplin and Wilson.
