Communities in the 4th Ward:
I recently purchased a home in Charlotte in the Sedgefield area and Showcase Realty with Nancy Braun and her team were very knowledgeable about the area but what really set them apart were their negotiation skills with the buyer. I was also impressed with the contractors that they recommended to me for some enhancements that I did with the place. Leigh Anne was a very professional realtor and even after the sale I have called on her for assistance.

Fourth Ward is an official Historic District and is the location of Old Settlers’ Cemetery, as well as the three-acre Fourth Ward Park, which offers a lovely retreat from the busy offices and roadways of the other wards. Old Settlers’ Cemetery is Charlotte’s oldest burial site. It is located at the corner of W. 5th Street and N. Church Street in Fourth Ward. The site is actually the final resting place for a number of Revolutionary War veterans, Confederate veterans, and other prominent founders of Charlotte and Mecklenburg.
Today, with its old, majestic oaks and brick lined pathways, the cemetery also doubles as a small park. It’s common to see residents walking their dogs, joggers running on the paths, and office workers cutting through on the way to work. It is a centerpiece of Charlotte’s Fourth Ward Historic District.
Fourth Ward has repeatedly been voted as one of the best “walking” areas in Charlotte. A stroll around the community provides visitors with a look at some of the charming historic buildings and homes in the city. There’s the North Carolina Medical College Building which was constructed in 1907 of red brick stamped metal trim and. It was used as a hotel after the college closed. There is also the Liddel-McNinch House, a Victorian home with shingle-style and Queen Anne influences that was home to local industrialist, Vinton Liddell.
Other historic buildings include the 1931 Frederick Apartments, known for its elaborate use of terracotta; the Bagley-Mullen House, the best example of Queen Anne-style architecture in the city; and the First Presbyterian Church, the religious centerpiece of the city, built in Gothic Revival style in the mid 1800s.
Fourth Ward is also walking distance away from many dining and shopping spots along Graham and Poplar Streets. Also within walking distance are the North Carolina Music Factory, The Bank of America Stadium (Carolina Panthers home), The NASCAR museum, the Blumenthal Center Theater, and Spirit Square, to name a few.
